Yes, there really are things you can do “wrong” when you are grocery shopping! I know .. who would have thought?

So if you have followed me for any length of time, you know what I am going to say is the #1 mistake that people make when grocery shopping … I ‘m going to put it in all caps, because I feel that strongly about it … STOP ACTUALLY GOING INTO THE STORE!!!  Unless grocery shopping is something that you truly enjoy doing, or find relaxing, there is NO reason why you should spend your time wandering the aisles, when you can have someone do the shopping for you for FREE!  Yes, free!  If you haven’t checked out on-line grocery shopping, do it!  You won’t be sorry!

The second error that most people make is that they go into the store without a list?  Are you one of those people who wanders the aisles looking for things that appeal to you without a real plan in place? Then you get home and try to figure out what you are going to make with all of the odds and ends? Not only is this not time efficient, but it is WAYYYY more work!

Are you guilty of this third mistake? Heading into the store without a plan for meals. Not many people truly love meal planning, and hate that it takes some time.  I am guessing that you like most people just grab a bunch of protein, some veggies, and “figure it out later”.  Not only does that make your week more stressful as you have to figure out what to eat/prepare each day, it also can lead to food waste as you forget what you have in your fridge.

The 4th mistake I see people make when grocery shopping is not doing the majority of their shopping on the perimeter of the store.  Now, why would that matter?  Guess what!  The majority of the whole foods are found on the perimeter of the store.  If health and wellness are a top priority for you, you will most definitely want to shop the store in this manner.

The last mistake I see folks make when grocery shopping is that they impulse buy.  A lot of impulse buys are caused by being hungry while you shop.  Be sure that you eat something before you shop, and then stick to your list.  If your kids always seem to add stuff to your cart when you aren’t looking, consider shopping  at a time when you don’t need their “help”.

Grocery shopping can be such an unnecessary time suck!  Spending a bit of extra time to meal plan and on-line shop and you will find several more hours of time in your week!

Be safe, and be well!
