Healthiest beverage on the planet?

So what happens when you drink green tea?

When you drink green tea you are flooding your body with healthy compounds that have been found to help your body in a variety of ways. Here are five reason that you may want to be drinking green tea daily!

  1. Reducing inflammation: Green tea is full of polyphenol antioxidants, which are natural compounds that have been found to reduce inflammation. Reducing inflammation in our bodies is essential to enable our bodies to fend off disease.

  2. Fat burning happens: There is evidence that shows that drinking green tea may increase your metabolic rate and thus increase fat burning in the short term.

  3. You may be lowering your risk of cancer: Studies have shown that the antioxidants found in green tea may reduce your risk of different types of cancer.

  4. You may be reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease: There are several studies out that show that regularly drinking green tea may help lower your cholesterol, especially your LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Now that you know why you should be drinking green tea, here are some tips for making it taste yummy!

  • Try it hot! Be sure that you do not use boiling water which will cause the tea to be bitter. Aim for water that is 160 - 180 degrees.

  • Jazz it up with add-ins such as honey, mint, grated ginger, lemon or lime juice,

  • Use it right away. Green tea loses it potency after 24 hours, so be sure to drink it while it is fresh!

  • Try it cold! Add 2-3 bags of green tea, a few ice cubes, and some lemon, cucumber, and mint. Start with cold water, and add the tea bags. It’s best to let them sit for a few hours. Remove the bags and add the lemon, cucumber, mint, and some agave syrup (or honey!) if you need to sweeten it!

If green tea is not on your daily beverage consumption list, make it a point to try it this week! Hot or cold, it is an easy beverage to add to your daily intake with the above ideas, and bonus points for the health benefits you are providing yourself!

Be safe, & be well!
