What To Do When Your Weight Loss Has Plateaued

You’ve tried everything, and you STILL can’t seem to shed those pesky pounds…

Frustrating is an understatement when it comes to finding yourself in a weight loss plateau. There is so much noise in the marketplace about what you should be doing, that it is easy to find yourself overwhelmed and discouraged when you seem to try everything and nothing seems to work for you. Can I get an Amen?!

If you find that you are in a plateau, here are a couple of my top tips to help you bust through that plateau.

  1. Start intermittent fasting. The key to successful intermittent fasting is to be sure that you are eating enough of the right foods the day before. Been doing intermittent fasting and not seeing the results you want? Try changing up your protocol, and experiment with how your body responds to different time increments.

  2. Try carb cycling. I know that that can sound intimidating, but all carb cycling means is the intentional variation of carbs over the course of a week. It is important that you are getting enough protein, fats, and carbs to fuel your body appropriately so that you can see the results that you are looking for.

  3. Get enough sleep. Sleep affords our bodies time to repair … muscles, organs, and other cells are repaired during sleep. When we skimp on our sleep, we weaken our immune system, you aren’t able to think as clearly, and your appetite will increase. This is because your levels of ghrelin which is the hormone that is responsible for telling your brain that you are hungry goes up. Check out this blog post where I share three tips that will totally transform your sleep.

  4. Drink enough water. Water jump starts your metabolism, and helps you push you through a workout and keeps your body burning calories (even when you are at rest!).

  5. You are doing too much cardio. Yup, you heard that right! Doing too much cardio is a stressor to your system and will raise cortisol (the stress hormone) levels in your body causing weight loss to be very challenging.

  6. If you are over the age of 40 it is a good idea to get your hormone levels checked out. As we age our hormone levels drop and perimenopause and menopause can cause an imbalance making further weight loss very difficult.

  7. You are doing the same things day after day. Our bodies are so smart! In order to reach your goals, you have to keep your body out of metabolic adaptation. . Metabolic adaptation simply means how efficient your body is as turning the food you eat into energy. If we are doing the same things each and every day our body gets used to that routine, and it will quit working as hard to burn fat for fuel. In the FASTer Way To Fat Loss we ensure that we do not allow our bodies to adapt and “get comfortable”. Changing it up and keeping your body guessing is key to seeing long term results.
