You probably have heard all of the fuss and buzz around intermittent fasting, but maybe you still aren’t really sure about it is all about, or why you would even consider doing it … if that is you, you are in the right place! And … I have an extensive FREE resource on intermittent fasting to make it EASY for you to start today!

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER INTERMITTENT FASTING?

So, let’s first talk about what intermittent fasting is! Intermittent fasting is simply an eating schedule. That’s it! Your body is always in one of two states: fed or fasted. In the fed state (anytime your body is digesting food), your body’s storage and building hormone, insulin, is high and prevents you from using body fat to make energy. However, in the fasted state (8-12 hours after your body finishes digesting), insulin is low and you are better able to use body fat to make energy.

It is important that we encourage the body to use fat for energy, not lean, calorie-burning muscle, so we can maintain a higher metabolic rate. You may have seen this in previous fat loss efforts: you eat less or eat clean and exercise more while never actually getting fit or toned. This might be due to losing both muscle and fat in your calorie deficit diet.

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT FASTING?

Intermittent fasting turns your body into an excellent fat burner. By narrowing your feeding window and expanding your fasting window, you’ll utilize body fat as your main source of energy, which means you'll see an improvement in your overall body composition. Body composition = amount of lean muscle mass and body fat on your frame. Intermittent fasting allows you to maintain lean muscle mass, which is a key driver in keeping your metabolism, or metabolic rate, high. The higher your metabolism, the more energy you expend at rest.

BENEFITS OF INTERMITTENT FASTING INCLUDE:

-reduced inflammation

-better sleep and more energy

-greater mental clarity and increased neuron development in the brain

-better digestion

-improved hormone profile

-increased life expectancy

-maintenance of skeletal muscle mass

-decreased blood glucose levels

-decreased insulin levels

-increased insulin sensitivity

-slowing of brain-aging biomarkers
